Where it all began......
When you're diagnosed with a chronic life long illness the last thing you would think would help you and aid in your treatment would be fishing. The day the specialised told me i had Chronic Cluster Headaches also known as suicide headaches and there was no cure, very little known in treatment i thought my life was over. A condition known as the most painful condition to human kind, attacks with pain levels so high its been likened to being shot in the face at close range. I was unable to work due to having 8 attacks almost every day, i couldn't go out and socialise or have a normal life. I lived in fear of every attack and the last thing i could do was sports but when it started to affect my mental health I was told to try and find a hobby to take my mind off it all.
There weren't many hobbies that i liked and I had head of the modern carp fishing where they camp over night with rods on bite alarms and to me it seemed the perfect answer. Being an old school match angler from a child i knew my basic water craft and how to set up rods and rigs so i had a good head start. I thought being able to stay inside a tent on a bed chair whilst having attacks leaving the rods on alarms meant i could still do the sport and be able to deal with each attack as it came. As long as i always took a friend with me on overnight sessions for safety and to deal with the fish if it goes off when i am in mid attack everything should be fine. It was the best choice i ever made!
Not only did the hobby help with my mental state but the fresh air and being outside in all weathers seemed to help me control the attacks and i soon started to find some balance. I decided to throw myself into my fishing and my journey began, I wanted to know everything about carp and specimen angling and began watching every video and program, reading every book and magazine. Constantly going out trying new tricks and tactics and then i began learning all the different rigs and found i became addicted to making them. I would get loads of tackle sent to me by companies so i would sit and try and master each rig until i could tie every knot perfectly, the amount of rigs i would give away to people was crazy.
It wasn't long before i began meeting others like myself who had a passion for their fishing and also used it for health purposes. I started sharing what i had learnt along the way so others could catch these beautiful creatures and possibly land a fish of a lifetime. Within a couple of years Club FAW was born and i have to say it has been a pleasure meeting so many great anglers and I always look forwards to the next adventure members send in and their catch reports. Seeing others getting out , catching stunning carp always fills me with joy.

Crafty Carp......Intelligent ?"Its amazing how clever a carp can be at times even though they are creatures of natural instinct and sometimes as carp anglers we give them a little too much credit at the times when they keep mugging us off. When you see one sit for ages , watching your hook bait and then eat every free offering from around that bait knowing he has sussed you out ......... well what more can i say .. crafty b******s"
